Little Car Mechanic

Austin made his daddy hold up his car so he could fix it! Ever since Austin took one of YeYe's little screwdriver (for fixing glasses), he's been fixing his car everyday! Mamma's too lazy to hold it up for him because it could take him forever! He would examine his car from up to down and inside out. So now that daddy's home, he's finally stopped bugging his mamma and asking his daddy to help him with his car mechanic job'!

NO MORE BULLY!

Hallelujah! The bully in Austin's class has advanced to the 3.5-4 year old class!

As usual, mamma took Austin to his 3-3.5 year old class today, think of ways to get Austin to stop clinging to her. But...... Austin walked into the classroom by himself and sat with the other children without any hassle! Mamma looked around and found that the bully boy's absent! Watching Austin behaving like the other children, mamma was relieved, thinking that Austin's a normal boy after all! Although Austin was still a bit clingy, he was clingy to his teacher, not his mamma! And the teacher was extra nice and patient with him, holding his hand whenever he wanted to!

After class, all the moms and the teachers all told mamma that Austin made a huge improvement. It's like he finally came out of his shell! The teacher also told mamma that the bully has "graduated" and moved on to another class, the class that Austin was going to advance into too! But now that seeing Austin could be soooooo...... happy, enjoying his class so much, maybe it's not a good idea to advance him into the bully boy's class!

One Cold Day

It's one of those days when Austin and mamma are bored out of our minds at home. All of our friends are sick so all our prior arrangements are cancelled!

Even though the temperature is only about 10 C (It's probably as cold as it gets in this neck of the woods), it's a beautiful sunny day (It doesn't happen often when the temp is cold)! After Austin got up and finished brunch, it's already noon! Austin requested a visit to 101...... first Page One Bookstore, then McDonald's, and last but not the least, the toy store. It's one of our most frequent route!

After Austin's all wrapped up, we're on our way. Austin's expression reminded mamma of someone, so she just had to take a picture......

Yes, Austin reminded mamma of "Scream" by Munch (photo from Wikipedia)......

We spent almost two hours at the book store. Austin didn't want to leave but mamma's stomach was growling non-stop already! So mamma told Austin if he let mamma go eat, mamma will take him car watching for a few minutes!

Here's Austin, car watching from Page One Bookstore.....

Enjoying his afternoon snack and toy from McDonald's......

Happily going home before sunset......

We didn't get to go to the toy store bacause it was jam packed with elementary school kids. We couldn't even squeeze in. Was today a national holiday? How come kids didn't have to go to school??

Dajia Riverside Park

Daddy took mamma and Austin to Dajia Riverside Park (大佳河濱公園)on this irresistably sunny day! Mamma saw a special program on TV recommending the park and just had to ask daddy to take us there! It seems like a beautiful park, with greenland which expands from Zhongshan Bridge to Dazhi Bridge, along the southern bank of Keelung River.

Besides the wonderful scenery, the park didn't live up to mamma's expectation. The bike trail, with bike rentals, was what attracted mamma paying the park a visit. But there wasn't a bike with safety child seat with seat belt available; neither are helmets! Not safe at all!

And the large greenland which mamma imagined Austin running about was full of dog poop! There must be 300 dogs running around, unleashed. Every two steps we take, there was poop, and more poop! So daddy had to carry Austin across the greenland!

There were suppose to be ferry rides, too! But since it was low tide (around noon), we were told that the ferry, which tour around the Keelung River, isn't available until late afternoon; only small motor boats are available (Yeah! Those will surely make mamma's face turn green, and stomach inside out!) So we skipped that too!

All we did was walked around briefly and enjoyed the scenery. The water fountain was impressive but when we saw the "DANGER! High Voltage Electricity" sign infront of it, we couldn't help to shiver a bit!

So we walked on the grass, afraid of stepping on poop, or walk on bike trails, and take a chance of getting run over by cyclists. Then we didn't want to wait til sunset to take the ferry ride, and skipped the boat ride so no one would get sea sick. We enjoyed the water fountain from far away to prevent getting electrocuted...... and other than what mamma had mentioned above, it's not a bad park!

PS. Mamma forgot to bring her camera so here's a great photo taken from Natural Color website. Enjoy!

Costco, Heaven

Since daddy's never around, mamma went and got a membership card of her own (a gift from American Express), and gave the additional card to YeYe so he could take NaiNai too!

Mamma always feels that Costco is the closest place to heaven in Taiwan. Why? Because mamma never liked living in Taiwan (if it wasn't for daddy, she'd be long gone by now)! Every time mamma's flight lands in Taoyuan Airport, it feels like returning to hell (the humidity, the pollution......); and every time mamma flies back to LA, it's like going to heaven (the sunshine, the beaches......)! That's why Costco is the one place that mamma likes to go to which makes her feels like she's in LA (of course, Chili's and TGIF, too)! Every time mamma goes to Costco, she always loads up on cans, boxes, bags, and bottles of American food so she'll feel like she's bring back home a piece of heaven with her, and makes her feel more content and secure!

In another word, mamma's addicted to Costco! It's the best thing that ever happened to Taiwan! Austin feels the same way too because mamma always manages to find something for Austin to take home too (a good book, toys, Crayola coloring stuff, CDs, DVDs, or cookies......)! It's our weekend getaway! Ha! Ha!

Too Possessive?

Austin's daddy's finally home from China this evening! Mamma gave daddy a big hug!
"No hugging!" said Austin when he saw us hugging infront of him. Mamma did it on purpose just to see his reaction.
"Why can't mommy hug daddy?" we asked.
"Because she's my mommy, not your mommy! And he's my daddy, not your daddy!" replied Austin.
"......"

Is Austin being too possessive?

Then mamma remembered that she was exactly the same when she was a little girl, ha ha!

Nocturnal Bookworm

Lately, Austin would sometimes stay up after his mamma's gone to bed because he insists on finishing reading all the books on his bookshelves before turning in! He just sits in a pile of books and read them one by one...... And if mamma grabs him into bed, he'll throw a tantrum and wake up all the neighbors! So mamma just let Austin knows that he could come to bed whenever he's ready! It usually takes him more than an hour! But since reading is a good habit, mamma just lets him read, alone!

Playdate at Tai Mall

Finally, Austin and mamma get to meet Auntie Kitty and Little Moises (visiting Taiwan) on a group playdate at Tai Mall, with Auntie Gwen, Noah, Auntie Joyce and SDD!

It was a long trip to and fro Tai Mall! Mamma took Austin to meet up with Auntie Joyce and SDD at Ban Chiao Train Station around 9:45am and took the 10:15am train to Tao Yuan. It's Austin's first time riding a train, ever, so he's really excited! Then we took the bus to Tai Mall! We didn't arrive until almost noon! After arrival, we immediately saw everyone at YouKids Playground!

As expected, Austin was scared to death of the playground! It took him a long while to get down from his mamma and starts to walk around! There are still a few things he just stayed away from, but as long as he didn't ask to leave, mamma's satisfied!

Austin first tried the turning tunnel......

But he refuse to bounce on the trampoline...... He just went in and walked alone the side to picked up some balls. He then accidentally slipped and started to cry......

Then he saw SDD playing in the waterbed. So he observed for a long time and decided to join him......

He was afraid to get on the moving boat...... but saw that it wasn't scary at all...... so hopped on......

Austin's favorite is the waterfall slide...... He spent most of his time here and must have slid down a million times......

Finally, he joined all the others and had a ball......

Watch Little Moises, Noah, and Austin chasing the balloons...... SDD's behind the blue balloon...... It's just too hard to get all four in one frame......

Austin just couldn't get enough of the gigantic balloons! Even when all the others have left, he stayed and played by himself......

It was a fun but exhausting day! Thank Auntie Gwen for taking all of us to the train station on her Mazda 5 so we didn't have to take the bus! Everyone fell asleep in the car but Austin...... and he finally fell asleep on the train ride home!

Not Much Improvement

Austin went to his 3-3.5 year old Movement Class. He doesn't cling to his mamma like a koala bear anymore. He just sits in the corner and watches the other kids, and watch his mamma sits on the other side of the room watching him!

But when the class is over, Austin stayed in the big empty classroom and had the time of his life...... running around, going in and out the tunnel, watching himself in the mirror wall...... His mamma stood outside of the classroom and watched him play by himself. He didn't even realize that his mamma's stepped out of the room. What's up with that?

Playdate at Austin's

Auntie Joyce, Uncle Dong Dong (SDD's dad), SDD, and Auntie Sunny, all came to Austin's for a playdate! Austin was in a good mood so he didn't mind SDD playing with his Thomas set and LEGO set at all (big improvement)! He was too excited jumping on the bed and playing with Auntie Sunny!

Austin won't stop bugging Auntie Sunny (Austin's wearing underpants only because he's potty training)......

SDD has the Thomas set all to himself......

Auntie Sunny has a kick ass camera which could take action shots. If it was mamma's camera, Austin'll probably be a ghost! (Thank Auntie Sunny for taking pictures!)

Austin posing...... "Cheese!"......

Sumo baby......

Karate kid...... hai ya!......

Everyone played a while, then off to "knife-sliced" noodle's place for a late lunch! Austin surprisingly sat and ate (and played) during the entire lunch! Auntie Celine was free for lunch and joined us too!

Then off to the library! Even though it's drizzling, everyone walked to the library thru Daan Forest Park! Austin refuse to walk in the rain so mamma had to take the stroller! SDD fell asleep at the library so left early. Mamma was so tired that she tried to convince Austin to leave but he stayed until almost closing time!

Mamma reading to Austin......

Mamma, Austin, and Auntie Sunny get a group picture before we part......

Pigeon watching, at the park, on the way home......

Family Photos from YeYe's Camera

Here are some family photos from YeYe's camera......

Everybody at the airport, except daddy......

Everybody, except YeYe, infront of Mitsukoshi Xinyi Store waiting for the bus......

Austin, Cousin Noah, Nicholas, and Samantha at Cousin Joceline's......

Everybody at the park except YeYe and daddy......

Mamma and Austin at the park......

National Taiwan Museum

Mamma heard from Cousin Noah and Nicholas that National Taiwan Museum (國立台灣博物館 www.ntm.gov.tw) was a lot of fun! They spent some time there on their trip to Taiwan few weeks ago. So mamma invited YeYe and NaiNai on a trip to the museum.

Founded in 1908, it's the oldeset museum in Taiwan. It is a natural science museum, with exhibitions of the history of plants, animals, and aborigines in Taiwan. Completed in 1915, the building features a mix of Renaissance and Baroque architectural styles, and represents one of the few surviving buildings in Taiwan. It is located in the 228 Meomorial Peace Park. But unfortunatly, it was raining, so we had to cancel our walk around the park!

Austin and YeYe at the entrace of the park...... As expected, Austin refuse to ride on the bronze ox......

Austin also refuse to enter the museum so YeYe takes him to the gift shop first at the entrance......

Austin whined all throughout the museum. He just didn't want to go in. But since we're already there, mamma had to drag him in. So Austin's been whinning that wants to go outside and he's about to cry......

The museum has some dark sections with strange narrating sounds coming out of everywhere, so it is a bit scary.......

YeYe tries to distract Austin with the creatures (fish and turtles) in the aquariums, but Austin's too scared to look around. He just wants to LEAVE......

Finally, a bright lighted hall with windows on the 2nd floor, after we rushed thru the dark basement. But most kids enjoy the basement because it's the children's floor, with interactive displays and playground......

The grand finale of the museum visit was the classic train in a glass house outside of the museum building. With $10, it lights up and make choo choo sounds. Austin and YeYe spent some time and money train watching while mamma finishes touring the museum......

Walking to the MRT station in the rain. Austin's eager to get home......

That was how we spent our Sunday morning. Mamma asked Austin if he wanted to go to the museum again and he said only to watch the train!

Paint! Paint! Paint!

It's a beautiful day out! Mamma asked Austin if he wanted to go out and he said after craft-time. But he must have sat in his highchair and painted for 2 hours. By the time he finished brunch (he's a late riser) and finished painting, it's already nap time!

He still creates abstract artworks only! They're titled "Fireworks"! He uses, markers, crayons, paints, watercolors...... just no finger painting! Mamma doesn't have to worry about Austin getting paint all over the place. He's a tidy boy!

Little Drummers Drumming

Ten little drummers drumming in Austin's 2-3 year old class. Since Austin's already 3.5, he's about half a head taller than everyone else! Mamma had to beg the teacher to let over-aged Austin take this mommy-and-me class over again!

Thank Teacher Yo for taking the picture and Teacher Chang for downloading and e-mailing them!

Unfriendly Page One Bookstore

Page One Bookstore at 101 is Austin's favorite bookstore. He could sit there and read for more than an hour! Naturally, when a new Page One Bookstore opened at the new SOGO Fushing Store (8th floor), we had to visit!

When we got there, Austin picked out a few books and started to read on the floor. Few minutes after, a staff came and told mamma that we're not allowed to read on the floor. "Pardon me? Why can't we read on the floor? There's no chairs, nor tables, where're we suppose to read??" mamma asked. The staff just smiled and said "It's company policy!", then left.

Mamma told Austin that he couldn't read on the floor so mamma had to hold the book and read it to him for a while, then mamma got tired. And since Austin's not allowed to read on the floor by himself, he started to cry...... Mamma had to promise to buy the book home in order to get him to stop crying!

Now what kind of bookstore is that if there's no place to read?

Since we're already at SOGO and we couldn't read at the bookstore, we went to the 9th floor to see the indoor Japanese Landscape Garden. Yeah, it's a pretty garden but no one's allowed to go inside; it's all blocked off! It's not even possible to walk around it; it could only be viewed from one side.

Now what kind of garden is that if people couldn't walk thru it?

So we've spent only about 30 minutes at the bookstore and looked at the garden only for a few second and decided to leave! Next to the elevator, Austin saw a pottery/ceremic vender selling water fountains/water falls with colorful goldfish in them. He stood there looking at the goldfish in the fountains for almost 30 minutes! Too bad mamma's camera's out of battery so she couldn't record the fish watching moments!

Maybe mamma should get a fish tank and get some colorful fish so Austin could watch the fish when he gets bored!

51% of Women Are Now Living Without Spouse

The following is an interesting article on The New York TImes today...... The statistic amazes me! The article's a bit lengthy, but well worth reading!

The New York TImes

January 16, 2007
51% of Women Are Now Living Without Spouse

By SAM ROBERTS
For what experts say is probably the first time, more American women are living without a husband than with one, according to a New York Times analysis of census results.

In 2005, 51 percent of women said they were living without a spouse, up from 35 percent in 1950 and 49 percent in 2000.

Coupled with the fact that in 2005 married couples became a minority of all American households for the first time, the trend could ultimately shape social and workplace policies, including the ways government and employers distribute benefits.

Several factors are driving the statistical shift. At one end of the age spectrum, women are marrying later or living with unmarried partners more often and for longer periods. At the other end, women are living longer as widows and, after a divorce, are more likely than men to delay remarriage, sometimes delighting in their newfound freedom.

In addition, marriage rates among black women remain low. Only about 30 percent of black women are living with a spouse, according to the Census Bureau, compared with about 49 percent of Hispanic women, 55 percent of non-Hispanic white women and more than 60 percent of Asian women.

In a relatively small number of cases, the living arrangement is temporary, because the husbands are working out of town, are in the military or are institutionalized. But while most women eventually marry, the larger trend is unmistakable.

“This is yet another of the inexorable signs that there is no going back to a world where we can assume that marriage is the main institution that organizes people’s lives,” said Prof. Stephanie Coontz, director of public education for the Council on Contemporary Families, a nonprofit research group. “Most of these women will marry, or have married. But on average, Americans now spend half their adult lives outside marriage.”

Professor Coontz said this was probably unprecedented with the possible exception of major wartime mobilizations and when black couples were separated during slavery.

William H. Frey, a demographer with the Brookings Institution, a research group in Washington, described the shift as “a clear tipping point, reflecting the culmination of post-1960 trends associated with greater independence and more flexible lifestyles for women.”

“For better or worse, women are less dependent on men or the institution of marriage,” Dr. Frey said. “Younger women understand this better, and are preparing to live longer parts of their lives alone or with nonmarried partners. For many older boomer and senior women, the institution of marriage did not hold the promise they might have hoped for, growing up in an ‘Ozzie and Harriet’ era.”

Emily Zuzik, a 32-year-old musician and model who lives in the East Village of Manhattan, said she was not surprised by the trend.

“A lot of my friends are divorced or single or living alone,” Ms. Zuzik said. “I know a lot of people in their 30s who have roommates.”

Ms. Zuzik has lived with a boyfriend twice, once in California where the couple registered as domestic partners to qualify for his health insurance plan. “I don’t plan to live with anyone else again until I am married,” she said, “and I may opt to keep a place of my own even then.”

Linda Barth, a 56-year-old magazine editor in Houston who has never married, said, “I used to divide my women friends into single friends and married friends. Now that doesn’t seem to be an issue.”

Sheila Jamison, who also lives in the East Village and works for a media company, is 45 and single. She says her family believes she would have had a better chance of finding a husband had she attended a historically black college instead of Duke.

“Considering all the weddings I attended in the ’80s that have ended so very, very badly, I consider myself straight up lucky,” Ms. Jamison said. “I have not sworn off marriage, but if I do wed, it will be to have a companion with whom I can travel and play parlor games in my old age.”

Carol Crenshaw, 57, of Roswell, Ga., was divorced in 2005 after 33 years and says she is in no hurry to marry again.

“I’m in a place in my life where I’m comfortable,” said Ms. Crenshaw, who has two grown sons. “I can do what I want, when I want, with whom I want. I was a wife and a mother. I don’t feel like I need to do that again.”

Similarly, Shelley Fidler, 59, a public policy adviser at a law firm, has sworn off marriage. She moved from rural Virginia to the vibrant Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, D.C., when her 30-year marriage ended.

“The benefits were completely unforeseen for me,” Ms. Fidler said, “the free time, the amount of time I get to spend with friends, the time I have alone, which I value tremendously, the flexibility in terms of work, travel and cultural events.”

Among the more than 117 million women over the age of 15, according to the marital status category in the Census Bureau’s latest American Community Survey, 63 million are married. Of those, 3.1 million are legally separated and 2.4 million said their husbands were not living at home for one reason or another.

That brings the number of American women actually living with a spouse to 57.5 million, compared with the 59.9 million who are single or whose husbands were not living at home when the survey was taken in 2005.

Some of those situations, which the census identifies as “spouse absent” and “other,” are temporary, and, of course, even some people who describe themselves as separated eventually reunite with their spouses.

Over all, a larger share of men are married and living with their spouse — about 53 percent compared with 49 percent among women.

“Since women continue to outlive men, they have reached the nonmarital tipping point — more nonmarried than married,” Dr. Frey said. “This suggests that most girls growing up today can look forward to spending more of their lives outside of a traditional marriage.”

Pamela J. Smock, a researcher at the University of Michigan Population Studies Center, agreed, saying that “changing patterns of courtship, marriage, and that we are living longer lives all play a role.”

“Men also remarry more quickly than women after a divorce,” Ms. Smock added, “and both are increasingly likely to cohabit rather than remarry after a divorce.”

The proportion of married people, especially among younger age groups, has been declining for decades. Between 1950 and 2000, the share of women 15-to-24 who were married plummeted to 16 percent, from 42 percent. Among 25-to-34-year-olds, the proportion dropped to 58 percent, from 82 percent.

“Although we can help people ‘do’ marriage better, it is simply delusional to construct social policy or make personal life decisions on the basis that you can count on people spending most of their adult lives in marriage,” said Professor Coontz, the author of “Marriage, a History: How Love Conquered Marriage.”

Besse Gardner, 24, said she and her boyfriend met as college freshmen and started living together last April “for all the wrong reasons” — they found a great apartment on the beach in Los Angeles.

“We do not see living together as an end or even for the rest of our lives — it’s just fun right now,” Ms. Gardner said. “My roommate is someone I’d be thrilled to marry one day, but it just doesn’t make sense right now.”

Ms. Crenshaw said that some of the women in her support group for divorced women were miserable, but that she was surprised how happy she was to be single again.

“That’s not how I grew up,” she said. “That’s not how society thinks. It’s a marriage culture.”

Elissa B. Terris, 59, of Marietta, Ga., divorced in 2005 after being married for 34 years and raising a daughter, who is now an adult.

“A gentleman asked me to marry him and I said no,” she recalled. “I told him, ‘I’m just beginning to fly again, I’m just beginning to be me. Don’t take that away.’ ”

“Marriage kind of aged me because there weren’t options,” Ms. Terris said. “There was only one way to go. Now I have choices. One night I slept on the other side of the bed, and I thought, I like this side.”

She said she was returning to college to get a master’s degree (her former husband “didn’t want me to do that because I was more educated than he was”), had taken photography classes and was auditioning for a play.

“Once you go through something you think will kill you and it doesn’t,” she said, “every day is like a present.”

New Toilet Seat

Mamma got Austin a new toilet seat! Actually, mamma got it in the summer but left it in LA. So his uncle brought it back for him two weeks ago. Mamma just now installed it!

Austin's old toilet seat needs to be put on and take off and he's too lazy to do it by himself! With this new toilet seat, he just flips down when he needs to use it and flips up when he's done! How cool is that?! Now just hope that he uses it more often!

It's called "Flip-N-Flush" from www.tinytots.com!

Back to Square One!

Austin missed class for almost a month...... first, it was waking up late; then, his cousins came for two weeks; last week, mamma had a bad cold...... So when mamma took him to class today, he clings to his mamma like a koala to a tree for the entire class. Now it's back to square one!

Hooked on Fish Feeding

It's just too beautiful of a day to stay home...... hot hot sun, but cool cool wind! Mamma asked where Austin would like to go and he said that he wants to go fish feeding! Not a bad hobby!

So mamma took some bread out from the fridge for the fish and off we go to the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial! (There's also a fish food vending machine at the memorial next to the pond but we always bring our own.) Austin and mamma sat by the pond and fed fish for almost an hour. Then finally, Austin got bored (mamma was bored long ago) and wanted to leave!

Hundreds of fish fight for food (there're much more fish in the pond then what could be seen in the picture)......

Self portrait......

Back into the stroller and ready to leave......

In the middle of the memorial......

Must visit President Chiang's classic hot wheels before we leave......

Baby Gym's for Babies!

Mamma keeps all of Austin's baby toys because he would look for them when he thinks of them! But when he can't find something, he will cry his heart out!

This time, Austin misses his baby gym and found it under his bed. He asked mamma if he could play with it and mamma told him that baby gym's for babies, not 3.5 year olds! He told mamma that he grew little and he could play with it now......

Life Drawing

Austin LOVES to draw and paint! But up til now, he only draws and paints abstract masterpieces! Sometimes he would create something only he could comprehend and no one could tell up from down!

This is the first time Austin's ever created a person, a face with two eyes, a nose, and a mouth! Mamma asks if it's a self portrait and he just wouldn't stop giggling!

Family Bed Matters

Mamma and Austin spent the entire day at home, resting! Something that we haven't done in a long time. While lying in bed together, mamma started thinking...... Austin and mamma has always been sleeping in the same bed since Austin was born. There was never any doubt about co-sleeping in a "family bed" because mamma has made that choice to promote better and safer sleep for the both of us. But until when?

Mamma has no experience in raising a child so she learned everything from her sis-in-law who raised three very healthy and happy kids in the States. Watching the five of them all cuddled together while staying at our place when visiting Taiwan made mamma even more sure that she's made the right choice about co-sleeping.

Mamma looked it up on Google and found that more doctors and professionals today are promoting the co-sleeping concept. Both parents and children sleep better, healthier, and safer! And it improves bonding between the parents and children. Also, children may experience fewer sleep disorders in the future. Some research shows a lower incidence of SIDS with babies who sleep with their parents. And contrary to what many people think, sharing sleep with your children may also help become more self-confident and independent!

Now, the question is...... when are they ready to leave the family bed?? Mamma read that the American society (not only) rush their children through developmental milestones such as weaning and toilet training...... They're also making their children sleep alone! Expert says that children who sleep with their parents leave the family bed when they are ready: earlier for some children and later for others, just as with other stages of maturity. After all, you don't see any teenager who still want to sleep with their mamma, do you?

Mamma's glad that she never pushes Austin through anything. He didn't crawl until 10 months, didn't walk until 15 months, didn't say his first word until almost 2, and still nurse once a day (He doesn't need to nurse anymore but mamma's too sad to break the bond.) He started pooping in the toilet at 3 when one day, he told his mamma that his tummy aches, so mamma puts him on the big toilet...... and he still sometimes peepees in his diapers. Mamma believes that he will reach whatever milestones when he's darn ready, no need to rush! After all, mamma wishes that Austin could stay with her forever!

Danshui Visit

Even though mamma has a really bad cold, she decided to take Austin to Danshui anyway because all our blog friends are going to be there! Auntie Joyce, SDD, Auntie Sunny, Auntie Joy, 小小妹妹, Auntie TaTa & Uncle David......

But since Austin's up late again, we didn't show up until 2 hours later, after everyone ate and ate...... Might as well because Austin won't eat anything anyway! So when we arrived Danshui MRT station, everyone's already on their way to Fort San Domingo (紅毛城). Mamma asked for direction and the information guide told mamma that it will be about 30 minutes walking distance up hill to get there. Mamma thought about taking the taxi, but decided to take Austin for a long walk.

Austin walked some and mamma carried him some. We stopped by convenient stores (for toys), toy stores (for more toys), and Bigtom for ice cream, just to keep Austin going.

Bigtom Ice Cream Shop (with a great view)......

...... and playing with the toy that he got at the convenient store......

"ARE WE THERE YET?"

Finally we arrived and meet up with everybody! We hung around Aletheia University campus (真理大學) for a while, and started another long walk back to the MRT station!

Taking a rest at Fort San Domingo (紅毛城)......

A "we were here" picture taken infront of the fountain on the Aletheia University campus (真理大學)......

What an exhusting trip, but mamma's glad that she finally got a chance to see everyone!

Farewell at the Airport

Two weeks went by too fast! Uncle, auntie, Noah, Nicholas, and Samantha is already leaving. It seems like only yesterday that we picked them up at the airport. Now, we're already seeing them off! Our apartment was full of cheers and laughters for the past two weeks, and mamma and Austin are really going to miss them!

228 Memorial Park

It's such a beautiful day! Everyone visited The President's Office! But since Austin's up late again, mamma and Austin met up with the rest of the gang at the 228 Memorial Park around noon! Mamma's never been there before (well, maybe she has when she was a little girl)! It's a wonderful park! Mamma will be taking Austin here more often!

Austin was shy at first. He just stood and looked around the playground......

Then he started walking around......

Then he ran around......

Trying to avoid the little boy who's trying to play with him on the slide......

Yen NaiNai helps Austin with the swing......
(Yen NaiNai is mamma's best friends' mom back in Houston who's also visiting Taiwan. She met up with us at the park.)

Visiting Relatives

Austin's uncle, auntie, and cousins aren't back in Taiwan often, so one of their task while here is to visit all the relatives. Since we don't have a big family, they're pretty much done!

After going to Da Goo YeYe & Goo NaiNai's place, it's Shiao Goo YeYe and Goo NaiNai's (small granduncle and grandauntie)!
They're back from Montreal and are staying with Joceline (Austin's cousin). They prepared an entire table of snacks for the kids, but Austin's not even slightly interested. Instead, he runs into their bedroom and plays on their bed, alone! Mamma guesses that he's trying to get away from the crowd, and have some peace and quiet!

But everywhere Austin goes, the kids followed him around! After several attemps to find peace and quiet, he finally gave up and let the others join in!

It's a very cold day...... Austin's all wrapped up and ready to go......

Austin tries to play alone in the room but Samantha joined in......

And Joceline joined in, too......

Then Austin leaves the bedroom for the living room to play "tea time" with the girls' toys......

The boys, trying to stay away from the girls......

Finally, the kids get together and jump on the bed......

We spent the entire afternoon there and the three little monkeys spent half of their time jumping on the bed......

Unfortunately, mamma's old camera ran out of battery shortly after we arrived, so there'll be more pictures coming from Auntie WeiWei.

MRT Ride!

Everyone's back from Hua Lien!

We all went on a MRT trip to Da Goo YeYe and Goo NaiNai's (grandauntie & granduncle) place! Austin was so busy checking out their apartment that mamma had to follow him around and forgot to take pictures!

Here's a picture taken on the MRT......

Here are the kids goofing around......

After a hard day playing and running around, everyone sits quietly infront of the TV......

Children's Museum of Taipei

Joyce & SDD invited us for a playdate at Children's Museum of Taipei (兒童探索博物館 www.cmot.com.tw) on the 5F of Xinyi Eslite Building. But since Austin didn't wake up til after noon (playing late with his daddy the previous night because his daddy's off to China today), we didn't get there until 2:30pm!

It's our first time there because Austin's soooooo afraid of the place. There's a dentist chair right at the entrance so he thinks that it's a dentist/doctor's office! Mamma had to drag him in and he started crying soon after we entered the museum! Mamma then walked him out and took him to a secluded corner to have a talk. She gave him a choice... he could either walk back to the place where there's a pretend dentist chair, or he could leave and mamma will take him to a real dentist office! What a tough choice! He thought for a while and decided to walk back to the museum with mamma, with a very frightened and unsure look on his face.

At the museum, he sat on mamma for a long time, asking repeatedly, "Are we really not at the doctor's office?" It took him a while to be convinced, finally, that the museum is NOT a dentist/doctor's office, that it's a place for the children to play, and it's safe to come down from his mamma!

Austin took a brief tour of the museum with mamma. Out of the 2.5 hours there, he spent most of his time playing only at certain areas and stayed away from other sectioins!

Watching the big bubble that mamma made...... Austin would never pop a bubble, he just watches them float in the air......

Austin spent most of his time at the Raceway section where he did a lot of ball rolling......

He got knocked on the head several times with the golf balls because he tries to hold too many balls with his hands and they accidently fall on his head......

Watching the balls roll down on this personally designed raceway......

A big elementary school girl has already built the raceway and he watched her play for a long time. After she left, he enjoys rolling the balls down the already built raceway......

Trying to operate a toy microwave which turns when certain buttons are pushed. His mamma will never let him touch a microwave at home......

After dinner at McDonald's, we parted with Auntie Joyce and SDD. On our way to the bus station, there was Santa's workshop and his sleigh......

Austin just had to hop on and see what's it like to ride like Santa......

The day ended with us waiting for the bus home under 101......

Errands Day

Daddy's leaves for China again the next day! So mamma and daddy has lots of errands to run the day before!

We got Austin an "I Spy book" at Costco to keep him busy and quiet in the car while we run errands for the remaining day.

What a happy boy he is! "I Spy" is one of his favorite book series!

P.S. The grandparents, uncle, auntie, and all the cousins went sightseeing in Hua Lien for a couple of days. Mamma decided not to take Austin because she heard that it involves lots of walking!

Spending the Day at Home!

Everyone took a walk around Daan Forest Park early in the morning, except Austin and mamma, who slept til 10AM! When we woke up, everyone's already on their way home! So we spent the rest of the day at home!

Happy 70th Birthday to YeYe!

The reason that everyone came back from LA to Taiwan is because it's YeYe's 70th birthday! Since the kids prefer western food, we had brunch at Chili's! Those with kids should know, it's never easy to eat at a restaurant with children, and we have four!!!! So we go wherever the kids like! The total dinner lasted less than an hour!

Austin was already excited on the way to the restaurant, while inside the taxi......

Austin and mamma......

Group shots...... thank daddy for taking all the pictures......

YeYe and NaiNai......

Yum! Yum! Let's eat cakes! ......

Everyone taking turns feeding Austin......

Daddy took the kids out while everyone finish up eating......

Happy New Year!

The cousins are all at the grandparents' watching the 101 fireworks. But since mamma and daddy are both not feeling too well (daddy has a bad cold), we decided to stay home and watch the fireworks from where we are, on XinYi Road, far away! Austin was scared at first but got really excited once he saw the fireworks!

On our way to see the fireworks, Austin asked to stop by the fire station......

This is the only picture mamma took of the fireworks......

Then, it was over......

Walking home......

Cheers! Bottom's up! Gan Bai! ......
